PROM fertilizer: phosphate and organic matter in one bag

CNF PROM puts phosphate and organic carbon into the soil in a single basal application. Every 50 kg bag carries at least 8% total phosphate (P2O5) and 10% organic carbon, and is made at our plant on Shahabad Road, Karnataka.

What is PROM fertilizer?

PROM stands for Phosphate Rich Organic Manure. It combines organic matter with phosphate-bearing material, so the soil gets phosphorus for the crop and carbon for the soil life at the same time. Farmers often call it "PROM khad".

Phosphorus is the nutrient young roots lean on most. A seedling that finds phosphorus near its roots in the first weeks puts down more root, and a bigger root system is what later feeds the crop through dry spells. The organic carbon in PROM helps the soil crumble and hold water, which gives those roots easier ground to grow through.

PROM fertilizer benefits

  • Phosphorus for root growth. 8% P2O5 minimum, applied where the roots will be.
  • Organic carbon for the soil. 10% organic carbon minimum, with a C:N ratio below 20:1 so it does not lock up nitrogen.
  • Better soil texture. Organic matter loosens heavy soil and helps light soil hold water.
  • More active soil life. Soil microbes feed on the organic fraction, and they in turn help release nutrients to the crop.
  • Less chemical phosphate needed over time as soil organic matter builds up season after season.

Is PROM the best fertilizer for root development?

We would rather give you a straight answer than a slogan. No single product is the best fertilizer for root development on every farm. Roots need phosphorus in the first weeks, soil that is loose enough to grow through, and steady moisture. PROM covers the first two in one bag, which is why it works well on soils that are low in both phosphorus and organic carbon. A soil test report tells you whether that is your field. If you share your report with us, a CNF agronomist will tell you honestly whether PROM is the right choice.

How much PROM per acre

The label dose is 300 to 400 kg per hectare. That works out to about 120 to 160 kg per acre, or roughly two and a half to three 50 kg bags per acre.

  1. Apply as a basal dose at the last ploughing or just before planting.
  2. Broadcast evenly and mix into the top layer of soil.
  3. For row crops and orchards, place it in the furrow or around the plant basin.
  4. Irrigate afterwards if the soil is dry.
